X is a filmmaker, writer, and community organizer. They identify as a black non-binary person, or an agender femme, and utilize they / them pronouns. X was born in the Mississippi delta and raised in Texas, they moved to Arkansas after finishing undergraduate studies with a Bachelors of Arts and Science in Multimedia Studies and Psychoanalysis at Hampshire College.Their artwork focuses on pleasure, grief and sacral experiences. It explores the ways black folks express their sense of selfhood, identity, gender, sensuality, and (non)being. They situate their work as a part of a black radical southern tradition, and a southern gothic aesthetic and take a primary interest in challenging humanism as an anti-black convention. X works at Lucie’s Place, as the Executive Director of a co-operative housing project and community center designed for trans and queer people in Arkansas. Lucie’s Place provides rental and utility assistance, case management, direct services, and a safe place for anybody who is trans and queer and in need of help, or care.‍
